Delay in Marriage: 6 Kundli Reasons and Remedies That Make Sense
Delay in Marriage: 6 Kundli Reasons and Remedies That Make Sense
By Astro Sandeep, Vedic astrologer and Lal Kitab expert with 21+ years of experience
Key points at a glance
- Delay in marriage astrology looks at why a wedding is coming later than the family expects, not whether it will happen at all.
- Saturn linked to the 7th house or its lord is the most common reason for late marriage I see in charts.
- A weak 7th lord, an afflicted Venus or Jupiter, and Rahu or Ketu on the 1st–7th axis are the other main kundli causes.
- Marriage usually happens only when the running dasha connects to the 7th house, Venus or the 7th lord.
- Remedies are traditional practices and acts of faith; they support your effort and cannot guarantee a date.
The question usually comes from a mother. "Guruji, she is 31, works in a bank in Ludhiana. Rishtas come, the families talk, and then it stops at kundli milan. What is wrong in her chart?" I hear some version of this every week, or about a son in Brampton still single at 34 while relatives ask at every function. Before blaming the stars, I check two things: is the matching itself being read correctly (my guide to how kundli milan and the 36 gunas work explains this), and is there a real delay pattern in the birth chart? Below are the six reasons I check, the dashas involved, and the remedies I am comfortable recommending.

What is delay in marriage astrology?
Delay in marriage astrology is the study of birth-chart factors that push marriage later than the usual age in a family or community. In Vedic astrology it focuses on the 7th house, its lord, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Rahu–Ketu and the running dasha, to find the cause of the delay and the period when marriage becomes more likely.
The word that matters is delay. In my practice, a chart that truly denies marriage is rare. Most show a later window, and the work is to find it before the family panics.
The 6 kundli reasons for delay in marriage
These six reasons cover almost every late-marriage chart I have read in 21 years. Usually two or three combine.

1. Saturn connected to the 7th house or its lord
Saturn (Shani) is the planet of slowness and maturity, so its link to the house of marriage is the classic delay signature. This happens when Saturn sits in the 7th house, aspects it (Saturn throws its 3rd, 7th and 10th aspect), or joins or aspects the 7th lord.
Saturn delays. It does not deny. In the traditional list of planetary maturity ages, Saturn matures at 36, and I often see Saturn-influenced marriages settle around the late 20s to mid 30s. These marriages tend to be stable once they happen.
2. A weak or afflicted 7th lord
The 7th lord is the planet ruling the sign on the 7th house, and its condition shows how easily marriage comes. Delay is likely when it is placed in the 6th, 8th or 12th house (the dusthana houses), combust (too close to the Sun), debilitated, or squeezed between malefics.
3. Afflicted Venus, or Jupiter for women
Venus (Shukra) is the karaka (significator) of marriage for everyone and of the wife in a man's chart; Jupiter (Guru) is traditionally read as the husband karaka in a woman's chart. If Venus is debilitated in Virgo, combust, or tightly joined with Saturn, Rahu or Ketu, the person often feels hesitation or meets mismatched proposals.
4. Rahu or Ketu on the 1st–7th axis
Rahu or Ketu in the 1st or 7th house brings confusion around partnership. Rahu can make a person reject good proposals while waiting for something "different". Ketu in the 7th often gives detachment, or a rishta that comes close and then breaks without a clear reason.
5. Mars placement (Manglik dosha)
Mars in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house is called Manglik dosha, and families treat it as the biggest obstacle. In reality, the delay often comes from the search, not the chart: families reject non-Manglik matches, or reject Manglik matches without checking cancellation. I explain the cancellation rules in is Manglik dosha the reason for your delay.
6. A dasha that does not touch marriage
A good 7th house still needs the right dasha (planetary period). If, from age 24 to 32, a person runs the dasha of the 6th, 8th or 12th lord with no link to the 7th house or Venus, marriage tends to wait for the next period. Many sites skip this reason and jump straight to remedies. I disagree: a dasha problem is solved by knowing the timing, not by more upay.
Which dashas delay marriage and which bring it?
Marriage usually happens in a dasha or antardasha connected to the 7th house, its lord, Venus or Jupiter. This table is my quick reference, a starting point rather than a verdict.

| Running dasha or antardasha | Usual effect on marriage | What I check next |
|---|---|---|
| 7th lord | Strong period for marriage | Its strength in the D9 (navamsa) chart |
| Venus | Supports marriage, more for men | Is Venus combust or joined with Rahu? |
| Jupiter | Supports marriage, more for women | Jupiter's aspect on the 7th house |
| Planet placed in the 7th house | Can bring marriage | Is it a friend of the 7th lord? |
| Rahu | Sudden or unusual marriage, sometimes inter-caste or abroad | Rahu's link to the 7th house or Venus |
| Saturn | Delay early in the period, stable marriage later | Saturn's relation to the 7th lord |
| 6th, 8th or 12th lord with no 7th link | Marriage often waits | When the next connected antardasha starts |
How I check a kundli for delay in marriage: my 5-step method
I read delay in marriage astrology in a fixed order so that one scary-looking placement does not overshadow the whole chart. If you have not made your chart yet, you can create a free kundli with your birth details and follow along.

- Confirm the birth time. A 15-minute error can shift the ascendant and change the 7th house completely. I ask for the hospital record or the time noted by the family.
- Read the 7th house, its lord and its aspects in the lagna chart (D1). Who sits there, who aspects it, and where the 7th lord is placed.
- Check Venus and Jupiter. Their sign, house, combustion and company with Saturn, Rahu or Ketu.
- Open the navamsa (D9). Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra treats the navamsa as the chart of marriage. A weak 7th house in D1 with a strong D9 usually means delay with a good outcome.
- Map the dashas from age 22 to 40. I mark which antardashas connect to the 7th house, then check Jupiter and Saturn transits over the 7th house or its lord as confirmation.
Only then do I decide whether the problem is delay, a matching issue, or a dasha that has not arrived yet. For more on reading the timing window itself, see my guide on when will I get married according to the kundli.
Delay or denial? Myths vs facts about late marriage
Most fear around late marriage comes from half-read rules repeated by relatives and online calculators.
| Myth | Fact |
|---|---|
| Saturn in the 7th means no marriage | Saturn delays and matures marriage; it rarely denies it |
| Every Manglik must marry a Manglik | Many Manglik charts have cancellation; the full chart decides |
| A high guna score removes all delay | Gun milan checks compatibility, not marriage timing |
| One remedy will fix the delay in 40 days | Remedies support effort; the dasha still sets the window |
| Delay is always a dosh in the girl's chart | Both families' expectations and both charts matter |
The Lal Kitab view of late marriage
Lal Kitab reads marriage delay mainly through Venus and the 7th house, which is the pakka ghar (permanent house) of Venus in that system. This is a separate method from Vedic astrology, and I keep the two apart when I read a chart.
In Lal Kitab, Venus is harmed when the Sun or Rahu sits with it, and the book links Venus to the women of the household. So a Lal Kitab reading often asks practical questions about relations with the mother and sisters, alongside Saturn in the 1st or Rahu in the 7th. Lal Kitab also follows strict rules for any upay: one remedy at a time, done in daylight, for a fixed period (usually 43 days), and never for someone else without their consent. I have written about these rules in the Lal Kitab rules for upay, and I suggest reading them before trying anything.
Safe remedies for delay in marriage
The remedies I recommend are simple, low-cost and harmless, and I choose them from the individual chart rather than from a fixed list. Treat them as traditional practices and acts of faith. They support your effort; they cannot guarantee a marriage date.

Vedic remedies (upay)
- For Venus: chant "Om Shukraya Namah" 108 times on Fridays.
- For Jupiter: on Thursdays, chant "Om Brihaspataye Namah", and donate chana dal or turmeric if your chart supports it.
- For Saturn: on Saturdays, light a mustard-oil diya and help elderly or working people.
- Traditional prayers: unmarried women in many North Indian families recite the Katyayani mantra or worship Gauri–Shankar. These are prayers of faith, and I present them that way.
Lal Kitab remedies (totke)
- For Venus: offer food to a cow on Fridays and treat the women of your household with respect and support.
- For Jupiter: apply a saffron tilak on the forehead and keep promises made to elders.
- For Saturn or Rahu: avoid alcohol and keep away from deceit in money matters during the remedy period.
Gemstones, rudraksha or stronger Lal Kitab upay only after a personal chart check: a wrongly chosen stone can strengthen the very planet causing the delay.
Practical steps that matter as much as upay
Widen the criteria the family has fixed (city, height, salary, "only Manglik"), verify the birth time, and talk openly at home. Constant pressure makes a person withdraw, which delays things further. If family tension is part of the picture, my family and personal matters consultation looks at the whole household, not just one chart.

An illustrative example: Saturn in the 7th and a late Venus period
This example is illustrative, built to show the method. It is not a real client.
A woman born in Mohali, now 32, has a Leo ascendant. Saturn sits in Aquarius in her 7th house, which is also Saturn's own sign, so Saturn is the 7th lord and is placed in the 7th. Venus is in Virgo, debilitated, in the 2nd house. From age 26 she has been running the Ketu mahadasha, with Ketu in the 12th house and no link to the 7th house or its lord. Proposals came, but none reached roka.
Her navamsa shows a strong 7th house with Jupiter's aspect, and Venus sits in that navamsa 7th house. From age 33 the Venus mahadasha begins, and because Venus is the marriage karaka and occupies the navamsa 7th, this period connects directly to marriage. My reading would be: this is delay, not denial; her strongest window opens with the Venus period; the family should keep the search active and stop rejecting matches over minor guna differences.
For families in the Chandigarh tricity, Punjab and abroad
You can consult me in person at my office in Mohali, or online from anywhere, and the reading is the same either way. Families from Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula, Zirakpur and Kharar visit the office at Booth No. 50 (basement), Phase 1, Mohali. Clients from Ludhiana, Patiala, Ambala and Delhi NCR, and NRI families in Brampton, Surrey, Toronto, the USA, Australia and New Zealand, usually consult online.
For births abroad, I convert the birth time using the birthplace's time zone and coordinates, including daylight saving where it applied that year. Free calculators often skip this, which is one reason two astrologers give different answers. If you want to know more about visiting in person, read about consulting an astrologer in Mohali and Chandigarh.
Frequently asked questions
Which planet causes delay in marriage?
Saturn is the planet most often linked to delay in marriage. When Saturn sits in the 7th house, aspects it, or joins the 7th lord, marriage usually comes later but tends to be stable. Rahu, Ketu, a weak Venus and a 7th lord in the 6th, 8th or 12th house can also delay marriage.
Can delay in marriage astrology tell me the exact year?
It can point to a likely window, not a guaranteed date. In delay in marriage astrology I match the dasha periods connected to the 7th house with Jupiter and Saturn transits. This narrows the most likely years. Free will, the family's search and the other person's chart still play their part.
Is Manglik dosha always the reason for late marriage?
No. Manglik dosha is blamed far more often than it deserves. Many Manglik charts have cancellation through sign placement, aspects or the partner's chart. In my practice, the delay more often comes from a search limited to Manglik matches, or from a dasha that has not reached the 7th house yet.
Do remedies really remove marriage delay?
Remedies support effort but do not override the chart or replace action. Vedic mantras and Lal Kitab upay are traditional practices and acts of faith. They can bring calm and steadiness while the right dasha approaches. No honest astrologer can promise that a remedy will fix a marriage date.
At what age does Saturn give marriage?
There is no single age, but Saturn-influenced charts often see marriage from the late 20s to mid 30s. Traditionally, Saturn matures at 36, which is why some marriages come close to that age. The running dasha and the condition of the 7th lord decide the actual timing in each chart.
Can I consult for delay in marriage online from Canada or the USA?
Yes. I consult online with families in Canada, the USA, Australia and New Zealand, and the method is the same as an in-person session in Mohali. You share the date, time and place of birth, I convert the birth time correctly for the country of birth, and the 30-minute session is held by call or video.
Find your marriage window before you worry
Delay in marriage astrology is useful when it replaces fear with a clear timeline. Most charts show a later window, not a closed door. If you want me to read your chart, or your son's or daughter's, book a consultation with Astro Sandeep with the date, time and place of birth ready.
